I have a great new idea for a post-apoc/cyberpunk kid's book.

"But Pike, you can't write a post-apoc/cyberpunk kid's book!"

Yes I can, or my name isn't Pike S. Taff!

I just bought more paid livejournal time for no other reason than not wanting to lose all my user icons.

I am kind of pathetic.
pikestaff: (Chibi Tawyn)
I resubbed to WoW. I know I haven't played it in forever but I wanted to try out transmog and the other new stuff they've added since I last played. I transmogged Tawyn into her Karazhan gear so now she looks like this icon... just the way I have always remembered her. :) It makes playing that much more fun, which sounds silly, but it's true!

I have no idea if I'm sticking around or not. Probably long enough to see the new patch hit at least. I don't see myself going back to raiding or anything in the foreseeable future but who knows.

Now I have to pick a character to levelboost to 80 since I get that for free, apparently.

A Dream

Last night I had a dream that X-Com was real and we were really being invaded by sectoids and the like and I was a spy who could sneak undercover into the alien base. So I did, and there I discovered that not only were all of the aliens raising cute little baby aliens who were going to alien Sunday School, but also that most of the adults were in mourning because apparently Brian Reynolds had just died and the alien species' favorite game ever was SMAC, so they were in a species-wide state of mourning. Part of their bizarre mourning ritual was to bury themselves alive for a little while (the aliens had some sort of ability that allowed them to shut off breathing for a while and still live) and because I was disguised as one of them they made me do this, also.

Then I panicked because obviously I can't breathe when I'm covered in dirt, but then I remembered that I had a teleport ability so once I was underground I teleported back to base. Things were normal for a while and then I noticed that my hands were turning into bright pink hooves because I was starting to turn into a pony, which apparently happens as a side-effect of teleporting.

At this point home base started to really worry because apparently I really needed hands and not hooves for my next mission, which was to create a comprehensive image comparing all Paradox games because HQ was tired of people going into Grand Strategy General on /v/ and asking "WHAT GAME IS THIS?" or "WHICH ONE SHOULD I PLAY". So then I was in charge of making an image comparing all of the Paradox games and I very carefully and painstakingly did so, taking special care to point out that Darkest Hour was better than Hearts of Iron 3 without making it sound too obviously biased. (It was also about at this point that Huxley showed up out of nowhere, gave me a rather bizarre looking ring to put on my finger, and then promptly disappeared again.)

Then I had to rush the image because IT HAS TO BE FINISHED NOW BECAUSE IT'S CHRISTMAS MORNING AND YOU NEED TO COME UPSTAIRS FOR PRESENTS so I was on my way upstairs and then I woke up.

I found some of my old journals today. Apparently I wrote a lot when I was 17:

June 18, 2001-

Pokemon Gold 2: The Adventures of the New Gang. Hey, The Gang was all Pokemon Gold 1, so The New Gang is all Pokemon Gold "2". Why? Because I tried the Elite Four with them today... actually, I made it there a couple days ago... Saturday, I think... but didn't try them until today (Monday). Guess what? I found a house in the middle of nowhere that tells you exactly where the 7-Days-Of-The-Week people are.

Back at the Elite Four... I suck at them right now. I can beat Will's Xatu and sometimes his Jynx, and once I got his Eggsegcute (sp?) down about 30%, and then I die. But with levels only 34-36, OF COURSE I'M GONNA HAVE PROBLEMS! And anyway I'M WORKING ON IT! I've also been bored enough to start Episode One Racer... you know it's Summer Vacation!

I applied at Video Library... still looking for a job... Ryan's making Commodore song MP3's... watched the Matrix and Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon last night...

THIS IS FUNNY: Ryan has a new "Agent Smith" loss account (but he keeps winning) anyway he did a 2 vs 2 Newbie game and he did a bunch of spaces and then typed "Cheat Enabled". Both guys on the other team were like, "How did you do that?" thinking he's cheating so Ryan said "Give me shared vision and I'll tell you," and they BOTH fell for it! One guy figured it out but the other tried Power Overwhelming about 3 times... it was great! K, c-ya!

June 28, 2001-

Sorry I didn't write yesterday, which I should've done. Why? Because yesterday The New Gang BEAT THE GAME! Everyone was at level 42 except for Vela and Feraligatr, who were at 44... and it's all thanks to a personal sacrifice made by Jigglypuff! Togetic almost had Gyrados, but Togetic died and I sent out Jigglypuff to finish the job. Gyrados did a move leaving Jigglypuff with only 4 hp left and then we got him-- so when it said "Will Ash change Pokemon" I pulled Jigglypuff out and then forgot about him. Later he had three guys left, and his buff Dragonite used Hyper Beam on Feraligatr and I thought, "Well, that's that! Lost again!" But then it went to the Choose a Pokemon screen... I saw Jigglypuff and his four hit points... and I said, in total disbelief, "You have GOT to be kidding!"

Now I don't remember all the details, but I sent him out and used this extra time to revive & restore Feraligatr, and when Jigglypuff made his sacrifice, Feraligatr came back to beat Dragonite, Charizard, Aerodactyl, and the game! It was AMAZING! So yesterday was officially Jigglypuff Day. I also went to the Doctor yesterday. But today: Mowed part of the lawn on the riding mower! Had a scrawny white cat meowing outside our door. Watched Ryan play 3-D mode on Pokemon Puzzle League. And had fun with nukes on B-net...

More choice quotes:

July 27, 2001-

I am not doing anything worth writing about. I'm still working quite a bit, but... heh... that's not worth writing about! I currently have $274 saved from working, and I made about $240 this past week (but haven't been paid yet) so that's over $500, I think... meaning I'm about halfway there. To a computer, I mean. Of course! It's all in the CCC fund... no, not Civilian Conservation Corps! It's the Computer-Car-College Fund. Duh!

Good word I'm a geek. xD

September 2, 2001-

BLIZZARD'S SECRET ANNOUNCEMENT! You heard me correctly, Blizzard... the company that created StarCraft... said they had some sort of top secret project going on. Supposedly, they revealed it early today at midnight. Of course, did Ryan check? NO! Because suddenly he's into Pokemon Silver. It took him long enough, huh? But of course, the downside is that he's ignoring his computer, and thus, I don't know what Blizzard's secret announcement is...

September 5, 2011-

I'm... back! The past few days have been fairly interesting, so listen up! First of all, Blizzard's secret announcement is something called "World of WarCraft," which looks like a majorly 3D Graal, so Ryan wants it, but it's, sadly, nothing StarCrafty at all. Oh well...

This is all hilarious. I'll post more later xD

Today I was packing and after successfully filling one box up with stuff I went to move it outside of my room for more space, and the bottom fell out and then videogames and books went everywhere.

Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you: Predictable Pike. (Because seriously, implying I own anything else.)

[livejournal.com profile] technophobia gave me 7 user icons to talk about. As is tradition with this meme, if you comment, I shall give you 7 user icons to talk about :D

This is the character Osaka from an anime/manga called Azumanga Daioh. Now, I'm not a terribly big weeaboo, but I have seen some anime in my time and this is one of my favorites. Osaka has trouble concentrating on things in class, so this was my Official School Icon for a while. I must confess I haven't used it in a while because I haven't been in school!

Chiyo-chan, from the aforementioned anime. I believe I have accurately titled this icon "Cutest Icon Ever". I use it when I am enthralled about something!

Chiyo-chan in a kitty suit. I use it sometimes when I am in a particularly good mood.

I snagged this from someone else years ago because I thought it was funny. The character here is Kain Highwind from Final Fantasy IV, aka one of my many pixel husbandos. I use this icon when certain people/things are irritating me.

Jetfire (aka Skyfire) is my favorite Transformer, because he likes to do science to ALL THE THINGS. This is him as depicted in a webcomic called "Lil' Formers", which I actually don't read, but the art is pretty fantastic. This is sort of an all-purpose icon; he's making a :V face so I use it when I'm being overly verbose or talking about things nobody really cares about.

This is a moogle Time Mage from Final Fantasy Tactics Advance. I like moogles, I like bunnies, I liked FFTA (deal with it) and I like horology (the study of timekeeping). Hence, the icon. It has a variety of uses: I use it sometimes when I feel like being a horology geek, or if I'm talking about FF, or sometimes if I just want a cute neutral-ish icon.

I can't remember where I picked up this icon; it just amuses me. It's sort of an "Oh boy, things are about to get crazy, time to hide underneath a blanket and tough it out" icon.

IN THIS POST: Pike denies being a weeaboo; promptly talks about three anime and two Final Fantasy LJ icons.

So I just spent three hours getting a really, really ancient Linux port of Alpha Centauri working! Because, you know, that's what I do when I'm too lazy to spend two minutes hopping over to my Windows partition.

I think I may have just epitomized geekhood.

ALSO, after work today I checked my voicemail and I had a message from the human resources person at Kmart. She wants me to call her back tomorrow! Presumably it's to set up an interview. Which has me far more nervous about it than I probably should be. I guess I just have to keep calm, stick to my requirements of hours/wages (not gonna take it if it's sub-25 hours a week, I think), and continually remind myself that I have never NOT been hired after making it to the interview stage at a retail job.

This is exciting! As much as I'd LOVE to get out of retail, because the dealing-with-people thing is tough on me, I want to get out of this money hole first. If this job offers me ~30 hours a week and at least $9/hr (small potatoes, but this won't be commission, after all), that + gas/car wear & tear savings should be a moderate help.

I've been on a sci-fi kick lately, due to reading sci-fi related books and playing sci-fi related games and thinking sci-fi related thoughts. "But Pike, you're always on a sci-fi kick!" Well. Yes. But. THE POINT STANDS.

So yeah I redid my whole LJ like I said I was going to. Now with 100% more spaceships and geeky references to games I play. Also, RAICHU MOOD THEME. Which is completely unrelated to everything else, but is adorable, and is sort of related to that Pikachu theme I had for years and years.

Now I'm off to bed. My goal for tomorrow is to finish up that big art commission project that I've chipping away at on and off for a few weeks now. I'm pretty close to done and it'll be nice to finally finish it!

Edit: Happy June, erryone!

"Windshifter" moral: The future may look kind of scary, but we should be optimistic about it because it's actually going to be awesome. Also, technology is pretty great because it was made by humans anthropomorphic animals, who are pretty great.

New Book Idea moral: The future happened and was scary, but we should be optimistic about it because it'll just get better, and be awesome. Also, technology is pretty great because it was made by humans, who are pretty great.

Yeah I failed Script Frenzy. It doesn't bother me. Scriptwriting is one of the very, very few things I'll claim to having some sort of modicum of talent in and I know full well I could've written a script in a month if I'd had the motivation. I just... didn't! NaNoWriMo is the more important thing for me personally, anyway.

Speaking of which, I'm tired of being poor, so I've decided it's time to drag Cricket Song out of the proverbial cellar and force myself to look at it and edit it and then force myself to throw it at agents. Also I need to decide if I should make the main character about five years younger. (Have I mentioned that I apparently tend to overshoot characters' ages when I write? I think it's because I was am such a sperg that it was completely normal for me to act like I was, I dunno, 14 or 15 when I was 20, so I make my characters do the same. And then I don't realize it until people point it out to me. Apparently not everyone spent their early 20s curled up in bed, playing Game Boy, watching cartoons, and avoiding human contact!)

Aaaanyways, starting that up may or may not happen today, seeing as I'm exhausted thanks to sunlight pouring in through my window and waking me up at 6am for like the fourth or fifth day in a row. So we shall see!
pikestaff: (Rainbow Dash - Do Not Want)
My new mood theme is ponies. AND I DON'T CARE. I mean, it would be preferable if it were the ponies from the latest generation, but until someone makes one of those, it's still PONIES.

Sooo today's project is to try to talk myself into calling the student loans people and telling them that I don't have enough money in my bank account to pay them, so they may as well give me that freaking forbearance because they're not getting paid either way. This... is... more difficult for me than it is for most people for various reasons, so I imagine this is going to be a bit of a rough day D:

And I wish I didn't think so incredibly poorly of myself that it's quite impossible for me to talk myself up in my resume, call back potential employers, or ever step out of my bottom-rung retail comfort zone :( Not sure how I'll ever get another job at this rate...

ON THE PLUS SIDE! My dad thinks that in another month or two he might have enough money to help me out as far as moving-back-to-Montana is concerned, so hopefully that will remain an option if things continue to go south.

Rent-free? I don't care WHAT it is, sign me up.

Also I'd do the following:

1. Install a carbon monoxide detector, because hey whaddaya know!

2. See about fixing up any ventilation/heating issues

3. ???

4. Profit! No more haunted house!

(Why yes, I am a buzzkill, apparently~)

Okay so, you know how in my last post I was talking about how I had a writing project that I was working on back around Christmas that I never finished?

So I pulled it up again to see if it's salvageable, AND YOU GUYS, IT'S HILARIOUS. I ACTUALLY WROTE SOMETHING FUNNY.

First couple of paragraphs:

Amazing. Brave. Powerful. Brilliant. A tactical genius.

Veteran of the Great Dried Corn War of '67, the Pantry Raid of '67, the Battle of Seeds Hill of '67, and Drawer War II of... '68? No, it was '67.

Yep. That's my dad.

You see, he's the Mouse King. And everybody... everybody... knows who the Mouse King is.

...well, mostly everybody. I'm sure the cat will come around soon enough.

This is going to be GREAT, and also, I get to listen to freaking TCHAIKOVSKY for inspiration.

Time to write~

"If you were a crayon, what color would you be, and why?"

Teal blue, because it is the superior color.

"What color would your ideal mate be, and why?"

Pretty sure he would also be teal blue, for the same reason. :3

TRUE STORY TIME: Teal has been my favorite color almost as long as I can remember, and it is my favorite color specifically because of the Crayola crayon called "teal blue". Some while back, Crayola decided to retire the color and not make any more teal blue crayons. I was buttsore about this so I wrote them a letter, using a teal blue crayon, urging them to reconsider.

I was like... 18 or 19.

That's Pike for ya.
