I have a great new idea for a post-apoc/cyberpunk kid's book.

"But Pike, you can't write a post-apoc/cyberpunk kid's book!"

Yes I can, or my name isn't Pike S. Taff!

I resubbed to WoW. I know I haven't played it in forever but I wanted to try out transmog and the other new stuff they've added since I last played. I transmogged Tawyn into her Karazhan gear so now she looks like this icon... just the way I have always remembered her. :) It makes playing that much more fun, which sounds silly, but it's true!

I have no idea if I'm sticking around or not. Probably long enough to see the new patch hit at least. I don't see myself going back to raiding or anything in the foreseeable future but who knows.

Now I have to pick a character to levelboost to 80 since I get that for free, apparently.

Sometimes I go back and look at old LJ entries of mine from like... a year prior and read them to see what I was doing at this time last year and see if I've made any progress at life related things. Did you know that at this time last year I was terribly emo and distraught? LOL WASHINGTON.

I think I need to start LJ'ing more, for my own sake more than anything. I've always kept a journal of some sort and this is the closest I've got to one anymore. It's an interesting scrapbook of my life. Also apparently I've only LJ'd six times in the last two months. I am a terrible person.

So at work today, I was struck with a MASSIVE lightning bolt of inspiration regarding some extra content to add to "Windshifter" in order to tie things up.

The Final Edit begins on Saturday. And by Final Edit I mean Final Edit #6 or 7.

"Windshifter" moral: The future may look kind of scary, but we should be optimistic about it because it's actually going to be awesome. Also, technology is pretty great because it was made by humans anthropomorphic animals, who are pretty great.

New Book Idea moral: The future happened and was scary, but we should be optimistic about it because it'll just get better, and be awesome. Also, technology is pretty great because it was made by humans, who are pretty great.

My new mood theme is ponies. AND I DON'T CARE. I mean, it would be preferable if it were the ponies from the latest generation, but until someone makes one of those, it's still PONIES.

Sooo today's project is to try to talk myself into calling the student loans people and telling them that I don't have enough money in my bank account to pay them, so they may as well give me that freaking forbearance because they're not getting paid either way. This... is... more difficult for me than it is for most people for various reasons, so I imagine this is going to be a bit of a rough day D:

And I wish I didn't think so incredibly poorly of myself that it's quite impossible for me to talk myself up in my resume, call back potential employers, or ever step out of my bottom-rung retail comfort zone :( Not sure how I'll ever get another job at this rate...

ON THE PLUS SIDE! My dad thinks that in another month or two he might have enough money to help me out as far as moving-back-to-Montana is concerned, so hopefully that will remain an option if things continue to go south.

Day 15

Day 15 - Post a screenshot from the game you’re playing right now.

Civilization IV: Beyond the Sword is my current typical haunt.

So this was a troll-tier game I had going on this morning wherein I snagged Liberalism in 900 AD, followed shortly by Gunpowder, and I was going to grab Rifling so I could build up this massive army of Advanced Rooty Tooty Point and Shooties and take over the world, but as it turns out I forgot to turn off Diplomatic Victory and Korea decided to catch me completely off guard and win by doing that with the Apostolic Palace. I was not amused.

This is another game I recently started playing-- Hearts of Iron 2:

It's a World War 2 era strategy game that makes Civ look pretty small time, and I'm still figuring out how it all works. As such, I currently suck at it. In this particular game I was playing as Germany because my reasoning was that they start with such a gigantic army and tech rate that it would be an easier learning curve, but then Poland and France both started kicking my butt simultaneously and that was pretty embarrassing so I NOPE'd right out of there nice and quick.

PONY USER ICON RELATED: It was my face at the end of both of the above games.

This is my new user icon.

Because it pretty much accurately sums up my mental state lately... xD

(Yes. Yes, it is ponies.)

Day 7 - Favorite game couple.

Back in the day when I was a fangirl it was Cloud/Aeris. Then I was a hipster fangirl for a while and it was Locke/Celes. These days I don't even know.

Day 4 - Your guilty pleasure game.

Oregon Trail 5th Edition.

It's an educational game for ten-year-olds, complete with cheesy animated cinematics, and it is amazing.

(Yeah the last wish sucked, don't look at it)

It wasn't particularly interesting or helpful )

In other news I have an awesome new book idea. It involves anthropomorphic timepieces. If this surprises a single one of you I will be speechless for the rest of the day.

Because I'm a masochist, Mini-NaNo 2010 (25k words by the end of December) is Go for Launch.

It's a kids' story. Specifically for younger audiences than my usual young-adult-ish fare.

And it's sort of a retelling of "The Nutcracker"* from the villain's point of view, and it's sort of about a mouse who wants to be a dancer.

I like it already.

* In the original, Drosselmeyer is a clockmaker who makes these little clockwork people and houses. YOU CAN SEE WHERE THIS IS GOING >=D
pikestaff: (Dina and Santa Mike)
I think I finally figured out Facebook. Basically, it's just like Twitter, except with quizzes and photos and stuff. That works for me because that way I can use Twitter for all my lovely Internet friends and Facebook for my more IRL-oriented friends, so I have friends all around <3

(Don't worry, I still need an LJ to blab on. As well as my millions of blogs, etc.)

I'm actually liking the Christmas music they're playing at work. Maybe it's because they actually play quality songs here, like The Little Drummer Boy. I'm going to let you guys in on a secret, and I don't care if it sounds silly: I was reeeeeally close to being all "bawwww ;_;" when they played The Little Drummer Boy today because of this line:

Little Baby, pa rum pa pom pom
I am a poor boy too, pa rum pa pom pom
I have no gift to bring, pa rum pa pom pom
That's fit to give the King, pa rum pa pom pom,
rum pa pom pom, rum pa pom pom.

Shall I play for you, pa rum pa pom pom,
On my drum?

And suddenly I had this epiphany where I realized that I know exactly what it feels like to be the Little Drummer Boy, whose only gift to the world is this intangible artsy one and you hope that this most humble of gifts might make someone happy, and it really got to me and I KNOW IT'S CHEESY, SHUT UP.

pikestaff: (House O RLY)
I saw Harry Potter, which is good but actually bad because now I want to take last year's NaNo and turn it into a big sweeping ten-part saga with monsters and epic battles and stuff. I'd do it with this year's NaNo, but this year's NaNo is much more of a one-off and last year's would be better suited for being turned into a gigantic dramatic series.

Also I saw a Luna Lovegood cosplayer at work which was awesome, because we all know she's the best character.

Hmm, I can't really think of much else that is going on. I'm still plinking away at my NaNo, slowly but surely. I've lost a lot of steam by this point, but work is partly to blame on that one (they gave me a lot of hours this week... not that I'm complaining.) In other news, since when did you have to pay to put air in your tires? Or is that normal and you just never had to do that in Bozeman? I can never figure out if it's this place that is weird, or Bozeman that is weird.
pikestaff: (Devious Snaps)
Orientation at work went well. Three hours of filling out paperwork and getting toured around the store. I found out that apparently this mall is a "high theft area" and as such it is highly recommended that you not keep a single thing in your car. Welcome to Not-Montana, I guess.

I'm back on Monday for actual on-the-job training, so I'm pretty excited about that. I was introduced to a lot of store associates and everyone seems really nice.

I keep taking massive detours when I go in and out of the store so I can walk by the watch repair shop. It's kind of ridiculous, actually. I can only imagine what they're thinking in there.

- "Hey uh, what's up with that girl who keeps going back and forth and slows down and drools while pretending to remain nonchalant every time she does so?"
- "No idea, but let's lock everything up super tight tonight, just in case." *click click*

Day 12 – What’s in your bag, in great detail

I don't have a bag, I have a wallet. It has my checkbook in it as well as a ton of cards of various sorts, including a miniature Periodic Table of the Elements. Also: waaaaaaaaay more change than I need. And a ton of receipts which I haven't thrown out yet. I dunno why.

Day 13 – This week, in great detail

My wireless card broke. I attempted to get a USB version installed on Linux, but failed miserably even after messing around for three days. Probably the most maddening part of it all was that I knew what I was doing and knew what the issue was but still couldn't fix it. I was SO CLOSE though. Anyways, ordered a carbon copy of my old wireless card off of Amazon. Installed it and it worked on the first try.

Other than that: drew a little bit, played a few video games, worked a lot. Nothing special, really.

Day 14 – What you wore today, in great detail

Orange striped shirt with Winnie the Pooh on it. Jeans. Glasses. Watch. Socks. Underwear. Black and white Converse style shoes when I ran to the store.

Day 15 – Your dreams, in great detail

Dreams I have while asleep: I suck at remembering them. Really, I do. Lately the ones that I have remembered invariably involve this creepy mall and I DON'T KNOW WHY. Movie theaters show up in my dreams a lot too. Again, I have no idea why.

Dreams as in "Life Ambitions": I don't think about "the future" very much. However, failing to do so has done nothing but screw me over, so I'm making an attempt to think about "the future" more often. At this point my only major goal, real goal, is to get my financial issues under control, enough to be able to go to back to school. That watch school would be nice but the more I think about it the more I'm not sure how viable it is so I may end up doing something else (I'm totally wishywashy huh?). I figure I'll probably end up having some books published at some point if only because I write so much that it's bound to happen. It'd be really nice if some book I ended up writing was picked up by an animation studio somewhere and that could get me in on movies *HINT HINT* but that probably won't happen.

Honestly though if I die having done nothing particularly important it wouldn't faze me very much. I just want to get out of debt right now.

Day 16 – Your first kiss, in great detail

Him: "We should kiss."
Me: "What? Why?"
Him: "Why not?"
Me: "Uhh, cause I've never done it before."
Him: "Well, me neither. Want to try?"
Me: "Okay"

... ... ...

Me: "OMG, wait, this is so weird. I am so bad at this. OMG. Can we stop for a bit? I need to rethink my strategy. This is so not how it's supposed to be done."

Yeah it wasn't really romantic so much as it involved me freaking out over the logistics and specifics of how it was supposed to be done. D= Go figure.
